Update

Whats new, since I haven't posted in a month! First and foremost Amanda and Garrett both left in August. Amanda went to South Carolina and Garrett went home to California. They are both missed. I wish they would have stayed a little bit longer! Its now just me and Niki holding down the fort at the Ridge. The weather is getting cold and wet again to my great dislike. Fortunately we will be closing Hurricane Ridge on October 18th and will hopefully be heading east the next morning. Which means we only have a few weeks left!! WOO! I'm ready to come home now if you haven't noticed. As cool as living in Washington for 5 and a half months has been, I want to go home and see my puppy, and all you guys who actually enjoy reading these posts.

Mama I'm coming home!!

Yes I will be leaving the Pacific Northwest but only for a few days! I'm coming home to Ohio to visit amongst other things. I'm very excited but I'm not anticipating flying by myself.

I posted some pictures of the things we've been doing the past few weeks. The pictures of the beach are of Rialto in La Push. The island is James Island. We went camping there and slept on rocks and froze the entire night. We still had fun though. Amanda made eggs and bacon in the morning over the campfire, the bacon greese kept catching fire but they ate it anyway.

Amanda, Garrett and I went to see Harry Potter when it came out, which we all loved! I thought it was awesome, the movie had fantastic effects. It was missing some things that I really wanted to see. Roonil Wazlib anyone?

The four of us also went to a game farm or something. We brought loaves of bread to feed the animals. It was a lot fun, and slightly on the gross side, with the animals drooling on us. The bears were soo cool! Check out the video!

We also made it to the Lavender Festival in Seqium. I didn't take any pictures because there wasn't anything to take pictures of. The highlight of the festival was the lavender flavored ice cream Niki bought. It tasted like lotion, mmm.. haha.

So that's about it!

We learned a valuable lesson that day, it was, bring more BREAD!

Some of the animals we saw at the park.

Me, Garrett and Amanda freezing outside the movie theather at midnight waiting to watch Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!!

Amanda and Niki fighting the beach with foam swords. Can't take them anywhere...

Amanda and Niki in their normal state of being.

This is what we woke up to in La Push.

Hallelujah! Aimee got a new camera!

Which means... LOTS of Pictures!! YAY!!

The last time I left you I told you about our everyday doings, the masquerade party and the bear sighting. The party was amusing, I lent my mask out, it was for a good cause. I'll put a picture up of Amanda, she had the best costume.

Yesterday we went to the Hoh Rainforest. We saw Elk there for the first time! They were eating grass in a field! Any way, almost all the postcards at the Ridge that have a picture of trees on them are all of the Hoh Rainforest. So naturally we had to go check it out. We decided to do the short walk called The Hall of Mosses. If you come to the Olympic Peninsula I highly recommend going to the Rainforest. Its like nothing you've ever seen. Its like an alien world. I'll post some pictures but they won't do any justice compared to the real thing. We also found BIGFOOT there! The Rainforest is also a hot spot for Bigfoot hunters. We didn't know this until we arrived. I have a couple pictures of us with a few different Bigfoots.

After the Rainforest we went to Ruby Beach, which was awesome. We had so much fun there! We made a driftwood fire and roasted hot dogs and s'mores over the fire and watched the sun set. We also, finally, stumbled upon some tide pools with Starfish in them! They were so neat to see.

By the way I found the Marmot! I was wandering around outside on the Ridge last week and saw something down the hill. I watched if for a minute and thought it was just a tree stump because it was so still but then he moved! I took some pictures but it wasn't with my camera. The marmot was adorable, he looked like a fat ball of brown fur. If you are unaware of what a marmot is you should look it up. I want one!
Until next time!

June

June brought with it an entire new Washington. Where it is warm enough outside to wear shorts, the snow melts and the wild flowers spring up. This is almost exactly how we left Ohio back in April.

A couple of days ago Niki and I decided to go to Salt Creek to see the tide pools there. Amanda had to work so she didn't come. We are still on different schedules at the moment, and hopefully it will be fixed by the next schedule. Anyway, we went to Salt Creek and didn't look at the high tide and low tide times and ended up arriving at the park too early. So we left... Salt Creek is located very close to Lake Crescent so we can go there anytime.

In the meantime the three of us have just been working and hanging out. We go to Port Angeles a lot. I think Amanda and I walked 6 miles yesterday while we were there. I really like Port Angeles. They don't have the regular city stuff. Most of their stores are random shops owned by families. Its really cool. And Port Angeles has the BEST antique shops. I never thought I'd say that but the ones here are awesome, they don't have a bunch of junk in them. The things they carry are interesting and fun. We also spend a lot of time at the library. We all have library cards. Port Angeles has a really nice one, I heard the one in Forks is very small. Amanda has already taken out her limit of books. Though that's not surprising.

Tomorrow the workers here at the lodge are putting together a Masquerade party. So we have some masks with feathers attached to them to wear. I would say it should be fun, but I think its too early to predict that.

Amanda has a new roommate named Lydia. Shes really nice and Amanda really likes sharing the room with her. We also adopted another person into our group named Garrett. He works at the Ridge with us. So now if we mention either of them you know who they are.

Update on the bear situation: We finally saw him!!! Most of you probably know that we've been waiting to see the bear that likes to hang out by the side of the road when we drive up the mountain for work. Every day we'd have guests come in and tell us they saw him and they'd show us pictures. The entire Hurricane Ridge staff was jealous. Every day when we'd ride up and down we all would watch for him, but he was never there. Finally last week we spotted him high up on a hill eating some flowers!! It was almost as good as when we saw the moose! Now we are on the look out for the Olympic Marmot. The Olympic National Park is the only place they are found. The pictures I've seen of them are very cute.

I also wanted to mention that all the National Parks will be having weekends all throughout this summer where you can get into the park for FREE!! The first one here is Father's Day weekend. We are giving away our reusable bags. I'm not sure if other parks will be giving away free things but you never know! You should check out the parks around you!

And now I would like to ask all of our faithful readers if you have any questions or comments you can email them to us at back.fatt@yahoo.com. I'm thinking of doing an FAQ post. Thanks in advance and thanks for reading!!

Day 21

Its your lucky day! The blog is finally updated some! Woo! We started our jobs last week. Its all very exciting. The three of us are working at Hurricane Ridge, which is a mountain nestled in Port Angeles. The mountain is currently covered in snow. The snow should melt by June or possibly July. We see deer every time we drive up. A lot of the guests claim to have seen a baby black bear, we have yet to see him. The marmots will be coming out of hibernation soon. Niki is really excited to see one. We have also seen a few people riding bikes up the mountain. Now I find this to be intriguing and also crazy. It takes us 40 minutes to drive 17 miles, but the thing is the road goes straight up. Some guy I was talking to said it took him two hours, again, crazy. Not to mention there are very few railings on the road.

We don't know what are jobs will be yet but I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be in the snack shop and Niki and Amanda will be working in the gift shop. Our manager has us rotating these first two weeks to see what jobs we like the most and the least. The job has been a little slow so far but the managers say that after Memorial Day it will pick up. They claim the Ridge gets packed in the Summer. We shall see.

Amanda and Niki went to La Push to go to First Beach without me on Monday. I had to work. We only have one day off together. From what they say they didn't have that much fun. It was cold or something. They didn't get to see any tide pools, Amanda said the tide pools are one Second beach. So that's where I'm going tomorrow, most likely by myself because they both have to work.

We went on a hike a couple weeks ago to some hot springs in Elwha. Amanda and Niki got in one. It was covered in algae and smelled like rotten eggs so I passed. The hot spring was a small one so there wasn't much room anyway. Someone was in the good hot spring so we had to settle for the little one. The hike was fun. We invented a new sport, its called dance hiking. Strap your IPod and speakers to your book bag and dance! That was a lot of fun. We didn't get too many strange looks. We also have taken the row boats out on Lake Crescent, Amanda likes to row me and Niki around. Hmm.. we haven't really been doing much else.

Its still chilly out and its not rainy too much so I think the weather is changing. I also think that we are getting more acclimated with it too.

Our Cabin.

A little video of Lake Crescent.

4 weeks later...

These are a few pictures I have from when we first got here. I don't have any newer ones because I don't have a camera, so sorry.
The 1st is some of the trees by the lodge.
The 2nd is Lake Crescent.
The 3rd is highway 101.
